The Pegasus Foundation is dedicated to finding solutions to the severe animal welfare crisis in the Everglades region of south Florida where every year hundreds of dogs and cats are dumped.
In these isolated and low-income rural areas, many pet owners cannot afford to spay or neuter their animals who end up dumped in parking lots and on roadsides, including unwanted litters of puppies. Many become “bait” animals for dog fighting rings in the area, and are brutally killed or critically injured.
To help shelters and pet owners in the region’s rural communities, The Pegasus Foundation is building a multi-county-wide network of local rescues and clinics, along with a county agency, that will provide low-cost and/or free spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations, microchipping and other emergency medical services.
While The Pegasus Foundation oversees the project and devotes its resources to support implementation, additional funds are being sought from our supporters, the public, and funders within Florida and elsewhere.
